There are barriers that exist within us or are a function of our own implicit bias and internal dialogs. These include the way we see ourselves, how we interpret how others see us, or the messages we received as children and may continue to receive now. All of these barriers relate to micromessages, as they are the result of hundreds of messages received over time, as well as the very real messages we continue to receive in all the forms of media with which we interact daily. All of this contributes to our being susceptible to the effect of bias, the barriers created by older teaching pedagogies, and other barriers.
